Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide. The theme of the day was "sustainable tourism", in 2017. In 2018 the theme was "Tourism and the Digital Transformation".

The National Tourism Awards recognizes the outstanding achievements of the Pakistan’s tourism industry, including individuals, businesses (industry operators) and events. The Awards are a submission and inspection based program and provide the opportunity to publicly acknowledge and showcase Pakistan’s finest tourism operators. Objective of the program is to improve standards and professionalism, whilst encouraging the continual development of the tourism sector.

National Tourism Pakistan in collaboration with Department of Tourism & Archaeology AJ&K, Poonch Land Tourism Rawalakot, K2 Kings Tourists Association of Pakistan Lahore, are going to organize Tolipeer Tourist Gala at Tolipeer Azad Jammu & Kashmir in Recognition of World Tourism Day 2018 dated 27th September 2018.
